The contrast between the warm colors that are amplified by the color of the leaves and the clear cool blue of the sky really makes this photo stand out to me.
I like the way the shadows are cast off the waves and rocks from the early morning sunrise.
Underwater photography is a difficult task and this perfect moment was captured using only the natural sunlight as a back light and a flash which really makes all of the surrounding fish stand out with the light reflecting off of their scales.
The wide range of colors and the crisp blacks make for a really beautiful picture.
This still is from "Life of Pi" my new favorite film. This shot and others from this scene really make the viewer feel the beauties of the ocean and a moment of peace in a situation that is mostly tragic.
The use of natural and practical light is all that is needed to make an amazing picture it really shows.
What is really breathtaking to me isn't so much the sunrise but the way the light comes through the water. The various shades of warm colors mixed in with the blues of the sky and blacks of the ocean. Water always reflects unique colors and images.
I am a huge fan of black and white photography because being able to capture so much emotion with only brightness and contrast takes a true expert. The way this is perfectly exposed on her face even to where we can see her eye and her shadow fills the dead space in the background is astounding and it looks as if it is just from one source of light.
I like the ratio between the size of the subject matter and the light. Considering the main light source is also the subject, I still think it doesn't overpower the secondary light source from the city. A very well exposed picture where you can even see some of the blue in of the sky helping to seperate the horizon line.
The colors in this picture are absolutely beautiful. Once again the mixture of the warm and cool colors make this a very peaceful still. I also love how it captures the light from the lighthouse.
I like the feelings that this picture invokes. It is like living in a world of darkness where the natural light just comes bursting through the windows overpowering the dark cool colors of the room.
A simple photo as far as subject matter but yet it is the way that it captures the light and then the added vignette helps to draw your focus to the center where the focal point and the light is focused.
This is one of those moments where a picture is focused more on the shadows and darkness rather than the light. The silhouette of the building with the glow of the sun behind it makes this picture already have a lot going on but what really makes this picture is the protruding light that stretches across the ground.
